Where is the Museum of the Rockies located? How do we get there?

How many visitors does the Museum average per year?
We average about 150,000 visitors to each year, making us the most visited indoor attraction in Montana.

Today, the Museum is best known for its vast collection of dinosaur fossils and the cutting-edge paleontological research that is produced here.
What is Jack Horner’s Relationship to the Museum of the Rockies?

Do you offer trips for the general public into the field for dinosaur digs?
We currently don’t have dinosaur digs available to the public due to the nature of the field research being done at our dig sites. To best preserve and protect our fossils, these sites are closed to the public.
What is the history of the Museum of the Rockies?
Dr. Caroline McGill founded the Museum in 1957. McGill, a doctor from Butte, Montana, worked in conjunction with MSU’s President to establish the Museum, and she served as its first curator. Her gifts included an extraordinary collection of Montana historical objects that were first housed in three Quonset huts on the MSU campus.
Today, the Museum is both a college-level division of Montana State University and an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution. Accredited by the American Association of Museums, MOR is also a Smithsonian Affiliate and a federal repository for fossils.
Does the Museum have plans to update the History and Native American Halls?
Yes, the Museum is planning a major renovation of these halls to include an exhibition from a new collection that we have acquired. Stay tuned for updates.
