Volunteer

Over 200 volunteers contributed more than 21,000 hours in 2007. Volunteers staff activity carts, talking with visitors and demonstrating hands-on teaching materials pertaining the exhibits.

Some volunteers work in the fossil-viewing lab preparing dinosaur fossils, while others run shows in the Hager Auditorium, help with security, put together mailings, and answer telephones. Each summer volunteer interpreters at the Living History Farm demonstrate the day-to-day activities of a Montana farm in the 1890s. Docents give tours of the exhibits year around. Registration for new docents takes place each August for the fall docent-training program.

Volunteers provide vital support to the Museum. In return they enjoy the camaraderie of working with visitors, staff, and their counterparts; opportunities for life-long learning; and the satisfaction of knowing they are making a valuable contribution. For information about volunteer opportunities at the Museum of the Rockies, please call the  Volunteer Office at 406.994.6892. Applications for new volunteers will be accepted and reviewed beginning February 1, 2008.
