In 1902, 44 sacred war shields were purchased from the Apsáalooke (Crow) Tribe and brought to Chicago. For the first time in over 100 years, the shields are back in Montana at Museum of the Rockies. Made of rawhide, pigment, and other organic materials, these beautiful objects are symbols of military accolades passed down through generations.
Aaron Brien, Crow Tribal Historic Preservation Officer, will discuss the power and significance of these sacred objects in Apsáalooke culture.
Included with admission in the Hager Auditorium.
