Becoming a Museum of the Rockies member is more than unlimited admission. It is your key to a living laboratory of science, history, and wonder.

Your membership pays for itself in only two or three visits and helps fund programs that bring science learning to classrooms, provide free access for students, and inspire the next generation of researchers and explorers. Membership also gives you access to museum exclusives, from members-only exhibit previews to special events with our scientific and historical experts.

Most of all, becoming a member makes you part of a spirited community of paleontology fans, history buffs, and science enthusiasts who know that discovery never goes extinct.

General Membership

Memberships are valid for twelve months from the date of purchase and help sustain educational programs that reach thousands of learners across Montana.

Gift A Membership

Share your love of discovery. A gift membership lets friends and family explore our exhibits, planetarium shows, and programs throughout the year. Each membership supports science education and can be used at hundreds of partner institutions worldwide through the ASTC Travel Passport Program. Cards can be sent to you or directly to your recipient, and memberships begin at the time of purchase.

Realty Partnership Program

Real estate professionals can thank clients while supporting MOR. Enroll as a Business Member and give each client a six-month Family Membership to Museum of the Rockies as a closing gift. Your partnership promotes curiosity, community, and culture, values that make Montana an extraordinary place to live.

To participate, email members@montana.edu with your client’s name and mailing address following each closing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Membership

Download the eMembership Card app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. The app has a red silhouette icon with the word ‘Member’ and a barcode.

  1. Open the eMembership Card app and search for Museum of the Rockies.
  2. Once you have selected Museum of the Rockies, click the “Find my Membership Cards” button.
  3. Enter your phone number or membership # and your last name. Click “Find”. a. If you search using your phone number, be sure to enter the phone number you provided when you purchased your membership. If you did not provide a phone number, you will need to have your member # to find your card.
  4. When your membership information is found, click the “Show My Membership Card”.
  5. Select the “Download my Card” button to store your membership card in the app. a. You can display your membership card at any time by clicking the “Show my Membership Cards” button.
    1. You can also choose to add your membership card to the digital wallet on your device by selecting, “Add to Wallet”.

For admission to Museum of the Rockies, you will be asked to show a photo ID along with your digital membership card.

To view the benefits associated with your membership level, including ASTC Travel Passport reciprocal admission benefits, click the “Membership Benefits” button.

Your membership is active until the last day of the month one year from the date you join. If you renew your membership before it expires, your membership will be extended twelve (12) months from the current expiration date.

Yes! Gift memberships are available. You can designate if you want their membership cards mailed to you or to the recipient.

Yes! A family membership can be purchased for the two adults in your household plus your grandchildren when they are visiting the museum with you.

You can add an additional adult to your membership. This card can be used by an additional adult when they are visiting the museum with your children.

Exciting news! We have transitioned to digital membership cards which can be saved to your digital wallet using the FREE eMembership app on your smartphone or tablet. By downloading your digital card, you help Museum of the Rockies to serve our member community better by redirecting staff hours where we need them most. This allows us to create more member perks and programming for you! Please use our Digital Membership Card by visiting museumoftherockies.org/membership-app. If you are having trouble downloading the app or finding your membership card, please see the FAQ on this page or email us at members@montana.edu.

Yes! You can use your membership for free or reduced admission at up to 360 participating museums through the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) Passport Program! Your MOR membership may not be used at ASTC Passport Program participating museums located within 90 miles of Museum of the Rockies. Learn more about the ASTC Passport Program here.

  • I am an ExplorationWorks member; do I get in free at Museum of the Rockies? No. ExplorationWorks members will unfortunately no longer receive free admission to the Museum of the Rockies. As of January 1, 2024, Museum of the Rockies will discontinue its reciprocal member benefit for ExplorationWorks members. Members who are visiting Bozeman will still receive free admission to the Montana Science Center and the American Computer & Robotics Museum and, after December 31, 2023, will receive a 20% discount at Museum of the Rockies.
  • I am a Museum of the Rockies Member; do I get in free to ExplorationWorks? ExplorationWorks will offer a 20% discount on our daily admission rate for tourists visiting Helena who have a Museum of the Rockies membership. Helena-area residents must have an ExplorationWorks membership to receive free admission at ExplorationWorks.

Your membership is non-transferable and non-refundable. You can, however, continue to use your ASTC reciprocal benefits for the remainder of your membership year!

Guest passes are available at the Collectors Circle, Curators Circle, and Director’s Guild levels.

As part of the ASTC Travel Passport Program, Museum of the Rockies brings an added benefit to its Members! Your MOR Membership gives you free general admission when you travel outside of your local area to more than 378 other ASTC museums and science centers around the country.

Before You Travel:

  • Make sure the science center or museum you are visiting is not excluded. Visit astc.org for a complete list of the more than the 378 participating museums and science centers.
  • Review that science center or museum’s family admittance policy. Download the list of participating venues at astc.org and call before you visit to confirm your Passport Program benefits.
  • Pack your ID (or other proof of residence). Admissions staff reserve the right to request proof of residence for benefits to apply. Science centers and museums requesting proof of residence are marked by (IDs).
  • Pack your membership card. Participating venues are not required to grant benefits to visitors who forget their cards. There is no universal database with all Passport Program visitors’ member data and expiration dates for admission staff to reference. Some venues will allow you to call the science center or museum you joined to confirm your membership, but they are under no obligation to do so. Lost your card? Please contact MOR for a replacement. ASTC does not issue or administer membership cards.

Exclusions:

  1. Science centers & museums located within 90 miles* of the science center or museum where you are a member.
  2. Science centers & museums located within 90 miles* of your residence.

*This distance is measured “as the crow flies,” meaning that it is based on the linear radius, not driving distance.

MOR honors the ASTC Passport program by providing free admission to individuals included on the visitor’s active membership at their home institution. For example:

  • If the visitor has an active Individual membership (one adult), MOR will provide free admission for one adult.
  • If the visitor has an active Family membership, MOR will provide free admission for those who would be included under MOR’s Family membership, which currently includes two adults and all children under the age of 18.
