John L. “Cutapuis” Clarke, was an articulate Blackfeet artist and woodcarver from East Glacier, Montana. His history was shaped by his grandfathers, Chief Stands Alone, of the Blackfeet, and a Frontiersman named Malcolm Clarke. Before he turned three, scarlet fever took his hearing and his voice, but it couldn’t take his drive to create art.
Clarke found his true voice in wood, sketches, and painting-carving Bighorn sheep, mountain goats, wolves, bears, and bison, and drawing landscapes. This exhibit features Clarke woodcarvings from the MOR Collections and objects on loan from the Clarke Family.
