Museum of the Rockies (MOR) welcomes members and visitors daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering a captivating experience for all. However, it is important to note that there are exceptions to these hours.

Primary Exhibition Closures and Updates:

  • The areas formerly housing Mesozoic Masterpieces: The Art of Douglas Henderson and the Hall of Growth and Behavior are closed to install the new primary exhibition, Cretaceous Crossroads. This exciting new paleo exhibition will open this Summer.

MOR remains open throughout the year except for a few select days. Please be aware that the museum will close annually on January 1, October 1, November 25, and December 25. The museum will close at 3 p.m. on December 24. It is advisable to plan your visit accordingly and confirm the museum's availability on specific dates, as the days the museum is open and its hours of operation may be subject to change throughout the year.

In addition to the main museum, MOR encompasses other exciting attractions such as the Museum Store, Taylor Planetarium, Explore Yellowstone in the Martin Children's Discovery Center, and the seasonal outdoor Living History Farm. These venues operate at different hours from the main museum.

The American Alliance of Museums has bestowed accreditation upon MOR, recognizing its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of excellence. Among an estimated 33,000 museums nationwide, MOR is one of the privileged 1,106 institutions to hold this prestigious distinction. Additionally, the museum proudly participates in the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) Travel Passport Program, fostering collaborations and enriching experiences for its members. MOR also engages with the partners along the Montana Dinosaur Trail, a collective effort to showcase the state's rich paleontological heritage.

Museum of the Rockies is pleased to announce the winners of last fall’s community contest to name the museum’s new café. After receiving a wide range of creative submissions, the museum selected "Rocky Rex’s Roasts" as the official name for its new café, which is set to open soon.

"Cretaceous Crossroads" opening July 1 to MOR Members

For the first time in over ten years, Museum of the Rockies will unveil a new primary paleontology exhibition. Cretaceous Crossroads will explore this time of transition, with a focus on three geologic formations in Montana (Two Medicine, Judith River, and Bearpaw) that span the period from 72 to 82 million years ago. The exhibit is comprised of real fossil material, 3D prints, casting, reproductions, murals, new paleo-art, AV interactives, an augmented reality piece, microscope stations, discovery drawers, and more.
