Museum of the Rockies is dedicated to engaging all learners, from babies to adults who are young at heart, in explorations of science, history, and art through an array of educational programs.
From our founding in 1957, we have shared the museum’s collections with the public, engaging visitors through special events, programs, and outreach materials. As a community resource and regional museum, over the past 30 years, MOR’s education team has stimulated learning that encourages curiosity for people of all ages.
Montana schools have visited Museum of the Rockies starting in our very first year. Through guided tours of museum exhibits by a dedicated group of volunteers, school students have explored museum collections and learned about our state and region’s past and future. Montana schoolchildren receive free admission and partial bus reimbursement through MOR’s Opening Doors for Montana Schoolchildren Fund. Our museum also brings museum learning into Montana classrooms through engaging outreach kits, portable planetariums, and livestream programs.
Awarded Bozeman's Best Place for Kids' Activities and the Best Place for Family Fun, Museum of the Rockies is a community leader for youth and family programs. Based on an understanding that visiting a museum has long-term benefits for children under the age of five, museum admission is free for this age group and our education team provides a robust calendar of programs for even the youngest children to help families engage early in museum programs. With regular family programs throughout the year and popular summer camp programs for children, MOR encourages curiosity and stimulates learning year-round.
Museum of the Rockies supports adult audiences with programs, workshops, and lectures geared just for them. Whether it is a formal lecture in our auditorium, field trip or workshop with an expert, or learning about Montana history while enjoying a brew, MOR encourages our adult community to connect to all the resources MOR has to offer in a format they enjoy.
Whether the program lasts for one hour or one summer, MOR can inspire a sense of wonder through real objects and experts in the field. There is always something new to learn at MOR!
