MaggieJo Widdicombe
Outreach and Museum Educator

MaggieJo is a Montana State University graduate, earning a B.S. in Earth Sciences with a specialization in Paleontology. She currently serves as MOR's Outreach and Museum Educator, a role that allows her to combine and share her lifelong passion for paleontology, science, zoology, museums, Montana history, and Indigenous history.

Originally from Ashland, Montana, near the Northern Cheyenne Reservation, MaggieJo has always felt a deep connection to the land and its stories. Her father is an enrolled member of the Red River Métis in Canada, and her mother dedicated over 25 years to teaching on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation. As a proud descendant of the Red River Métis, the Little Shell Band of Chippewa, and the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, her identity is deeply rooted in a blend of Indigenous cultures and a profound respect for the natural world.

Recently, MaggieJo was selected to contribute to the development of the Museum of the Rockies’ new primary paleontology exhibit, Cretaceous Crossroadsa groundbreaking exploration of life before Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops. She is currently creating curriculum and activities for K–12 students, including the development of five new outreach kits in line with the exhibit. Her work also includes building a pop-up museum, designing hands-on workshops, and delivering educational programs for audiences of all ages, both virtually and in person.

MaggieJo is thrilled to help bring the wonders of paleontology and the rich cultural and natural history of Montana to communities across the state, igniting a sense of discovery in the next generation of scientists, explorers, and storytellers.
