Kate Hodge
Director of Education and Public Programming

Kate is an educator who brings years of leadership experience, a background in science and history education, and a passion for making museum spaces where people of all ages and backgrounds can pursue curiosity. She has been a life-long fan of museums and decided to be an archaeologist at age three. Later, after working at several different museums, she realized her true passion was working in museums to share science and the past with the public in new and inventive ways.

Kate attended the University of Chicago, double-majoring in Anthropology and History. With a focus in archaeology, she has been on excavations around the world, learning first at field schools in America and later learning in Spain, Italy, Israel, and finally at multiple sites in Peru. Her research focused on Incan religion and architecture, as well as quipus. On archaeological digs, she gained expertise in bioarchaeology and later served as a crew chief.

While at UChicago, Kate worked for the Field Museum in various roles: as a paleontological intern, a Women in Science intern, and finally as a scientific affiliate at the Field Museum in the Anthropology department under Ryan Williams and his graduate students. During this time, she prepped fossils for paleontologist Paul Sereno, and she later managed his archaeological lab containing the Gobero collection.

While in school, she began working as an Education Facilitator for the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures Museum (ISAC), where she became passionate about pursuing museum education professionally. After graduating, she became the Public Education Coordinator at Project Archaeology, an MSU and BLM affiliated education nonprofit, researching and writing educational curricula about archaeology. She was later promoted to become the Interim Director of Project Archaeology, managing a million-dollar budget and relationships between MSU and the BLM.

From Bozeman, she returned to Chicago to work first at the ISAC Museum as the Youth and Family Program Manager and later as the Associate Director in the UChicago Provost's Office. Kate joined MOR in August of 2025 and is excited to lead the Education Department. She is currently working on expanding educational offerings to local schools, increasing outreach efforts to rural communities and reservations in Montana, and building new lecture series for lifelong learners in Bozeman.

Outside the professional world, Kate loves to go on adventures and take advantage of the beautiful areas around Bozeman by hiking, running, and skiing. When not outside, you can find her baking, cooking, reading, or playing music.
